Pre-op blood tests

When your pet comes in for an operation where they require sedation or a general anaesthetic, we always offer a pre-anaesthetic blood test prior to the procedure.

The blood sample is advisable for geriatric patients or those with any underlying health issues but we consider it beneficial for all patients. 

It checks for basic organ health and function, before any medications are given that may impact this; we then use the blood test results alongside the clinical exam to determine the most appropriate medications to use. 

The blood sample is taken on the morning of the anaesthetic, and ran inhouse. If there are no abnormalities, we go ahead with the operation as planned. If there are any concerns, we give you a call to discuss on an individual basis.
